Percussionists Rocky Maffit and Chad Dunn present an explosive, entertaining and engaging exploration of drums from around the world combined with the latest percussion technology. Music, history, geography, and just plain fun are interlinked as the two drummers perform on samba instruments from Brazil, Middle Eastern frame drums and modern drum innovations such as the ocean drum and the electronic Wavedrum and Handsonic, and non-traditional instruments made from recycled objects. This is a musical program that celebrates our world's diversity while reflecting on the common threads of music that connect us all. For all ages. Program length: 45 - 80 minutes (based on site preference) In Illinois, performances can be funded in part through a matching grant from the Illinois Arts Council's ARTSTOUR program (www.state.il.us/agency/iac or toll-free: 1 800 237 6994). How can a Rocky Maffit Group duet program contribute to your educational setting? Rocky Maffit and Chad Dunn duet programs correlate with general music and social studies curricula and supplement multicultural studies. Their assemblies expand upon existing programming by increasing student enthusiasm for the study and appreciation of music. Rocky and Chad open students' minds to world cultures as they introduce rhythmic patterns from West Africa and the Americas. Assemblies also help students understand how technology affects musical evolution, for the musicians often include electronic drums in their program and explain how they work. The performance gives students the opportunity to see and hear professional musicians who play the music of diverse cultures and who have the ability to communicate successfully to early elementary, elementary and middle and high school students. The Rocky Maffit Group concerts cover even more musical ground with more musicians, richer orchestrations and a grander musical scope. They also offer a variety of educational programs including keynotes, lecture demonstrations, master classes and workshops. For more information including fees and availability contact us at
